Native to wetlands but now found sporadically throughout the moister of our planted landscapes, this cedar grows truly impressive at maturity, with a steepled crown at the top of its masses of scaled, compound, needle-like evergreen leaves. Plant in moist or wet areas as a specimen tree and to admire even for its bark, which develops deep, reddish vertical furrows. Unlike certain other cedars, this species does not fall victim to cedar-apple rust, and its wood is extremely resistant to decay.
