Jeffersonia diphylla
twinleaf
Its large leaves unfurl into a two-piece structure (twinleaf), which, just as the flowers are beginning to open, look slightly elephantine. Each flower is short-lived, with fruits emerging as cylindrical green structures before turning yellow and eventually drying out, dropping seeds which are dispersed quite efficiently by ants.
