Rhododendron prinophyllum

early azalea, roseshell azalea

Early azalea, also called roseshell azalea, is the only naturally pink-flowering, fragrant azalea native throughout New England. Though the flowers of this species are smaller than many other azaleas, they tend to form in larger clumps. It works especially well as a focal point when planted in well-draining, organically-rich soils on woodland edges.
