Uvularia perfoliata

perfoliate-leaved bellwort

Perfoliate bellwort is increasingly rare in New England, best adapted to dry to spots beneath gaps in deciduous forest canopy. Its stem seems to pierce through the leaves, terminating in a bell-shaped flower that surprises and delights in spring. This plant is a great nectar source for early-emerging insects.
