Picea mariana
black spruce
Black spruce is a very northern evergreen tree, widely distributed in Canada but seldom found very far south of the border with the continental United States. Sometimes known as bog spruce, this species grows in cold, acidic environments where it forms a broad cone shape, with scruffily drooping top branches at maturity.
