Aesculus parviflora

bottlebrush buckeye

This little-known but oft-admired understory shrub is notable for its showy, eponymous summer flower. This suckering shrub eventually develops a dense, mounding habit, and yields glossy, inedible, pear-shaped nuts amid the bright yellow fall foliage.
