Dryopteris intermedia

Intermeadiate fern

This lacy, evergreen wood fern is a great sight in winter, when little else remains green on the forest floor. Though the evergreen fronds are in rough shape by the time spring rolls in, it is thought that their chlorophyll enables the plant to generate new leaves well before other plants leaf out.
