Gaylussacia brachycera

box huckleberry

G. brachycera is a small, evergreen shrub with glossy, green leaves turning burgundy in fall. This species prefers acidic, moist but well-drained (sandy or rocky) sites, and works as a great groundcover that can cover a very large area in just a few years. This plant is often marketed with the trademark name 'Berried Treasure,' but individuals sold as such have not resulted from selective breeding, meaning that despite the single quotes, Gaylussacia brachycera 'Berried Treasure' is not a cultivar.
