American ipecac is a New England adjacent species that thrives on rocky woodland slopes with acidic soil. With sharply toothed leaves and a strong, upright character, the contrasting red and white of the flower petals and peduncles make for a beautiful surprise that, when healthy, spreads happily via rhizome.
