Blue-purple flowers range in their degree of coloration, and in patches this plant has a calico effect. This plant is the chosen host of the Karner blue butterfly, the frosted elfin butterfly, and a food source for native bees and Monarch butterflies. To establish a population, mow annually in fall to score the seed coats and promote germination.
