Wild bergamot has been a historic favorite, treasured for its herbal properties and uniquely shaped blooms. Supporting a variety of bees and butterflies, this readily spreading, aromatic plant blooms pink in summer, favoring average, well-drained soils typical of most garden plots. 'Claire Grace' is a cultivar developed by Barb and Michael Bridges and named for their daughter. It differs from wild-type Monarda fistulosa due to its more strongly upright stems, dark pink bloom, and deep green foliage. Trials at the Mount Cuba Center rated 'Claire Grace' as resistant to powdery mildew.
