Garden phlox are fairly typical in New England in spite of their native range just southeast of us, but the value of those late-summer flowers for color and nectar has gardeners thoroughly convinced. 'David' is a long-blooming, white-flowered selection from a native population of Phlox paniculata found by F.M. Mooberry, Horticultural Coordinator of the Brandywine Conservancy on the Conservancy's property in 1987. Though this selection is considered resistant to powdery mildew, for best growth we still recommend providing any Phlox paniculata with adequate sun, moisture, and air circulation, all factors which reduce stress on the plant and therefore decrease the likelihood of mildew infestation.
