Rhododendron maximum var. roseum

Roseum rosebay rhododendron

This stately, iconic rhododendron can reach 25-feet tall with age and is capable of growing anywhere from sun to shade and and in well-draining soils of all kinds. Rhododendron maximum will survive drought, though it shows its distress with flagging leaves. Variety roseum (marketed as 'Roseum,' but not actually a cultivar) produces pink flower buds that retain some rosy hues as they fade towards white with time. Rosebay rhododendron are typically used for screening and as foundation plantings in partial shade.
